Phone details before it died:
Label under battery reads V3ROHS (customer told me it was a V3r, is that correct?)
I vaguely remember it coming up as V3v at some stage.
When I tried to backup the flash, the phone’s LCD read:
Boot Loader
0A.30.
SW Version R4515_G_08.BD.62R
OK to program
Connect USB
Data Cable
Critical error
80
40
I read some posts on another forum where they suggested backing up flash with testpoint grounded (backing flash up is not included on FFS video, so I had to guess what to do)
Followed instructions from FFS video Motorola V3r, apart from using bench supply set at 3.7v. Made own testpoint lead which tested ok on my ohm metre.
Cut screen with Dremel (I may have just nicked the large component which looks like a large resistor just to the left of the 4 small resistors where the testpoint is). It was the minutest of nicks. The resistor is directly under the screen and cutting a hole too far to left could cause serious damage.
Performed testpoint grounding after applying power, as per video (the testpoint may have wandered onto the next resistor to the right momentarily). The last time I worked in electronics was 30 years ago when the smallest component was the size of your thumb. My eyes are 30 years older and components are 30 times smaller. Now using a large illuminated magnifying glass.
This is only my second attempt at tespoint unlocking and my second failure. The first phone still worked and was still locked. I have unlocked 100’s of ‘normal’ phones in the past with no trouble.
Went to backup phone flash before unlocking. Got message ‘no phone found’
Tried several times still ‘no phone found’
Re-assembled phone. No longer powers up. PHONE IS DEAD.
Tried fully assembled L6 (to test my setup). Phone found ok.
My big problem is that my customer is expecting to pick her phone up on Wednesday morning at 8.30am on her way to the airport. She is leaving the country for 5 months.
Apart from buying her a new phone, can anyone suggest a solution?
I can bring phone for repair within reasonable driving distance from Cambridge UK tomorrow, Tuesday.
I have an L6 and C975 to unlock but am very nervous to do them until I know what went wrong.
Thanks in advance.
