Yeah, i think we might see another 'France' story where everyone writes off Germany and they win, but i really think England have to be the favourites, Brazil have a poor record on European soil, and theres too much focus on Ronaldinho but i think Gilberto Silva will be their key man in a competition where the standard is so high. Your team is good but its going to get very tough against teams like Brazil and Argentina.
And even though the German team isnt that great you cant discount the huge advantage they have as the host nation and then to top it the kind of football that they play...all they have to do is to somehow make it to the finals....... score once and then play a boringly defensive game like they did against Argentina in the Italia'90 finals.
The way I predict things England will be lucky to avoid Germany in Round 1. Beat Holland or Portugal in the Quarterfinals but if they make it to the Semi's then they face Brazil(yet again).
I think england's best bet would be to put in a very good effort to host the cup in 2018(no I am not joking because the next cup-2010 will be in South Africa and the next one -2014 has been earmarked to South America and Brazil is leading the current bidding!!!) and come up with a really good team by then.
I know that UK has a very good domestic circuit but only 2 or 3 from your national team play in international clubs, so you you never get a chance to guage them against the best of the world.

Steph my dear i accept that scotland as a football team are crap, i freely admit that and for the most part always have.
But the english mentality of ( we are going to win everything cause we are soooo good) has hystericaly time and time again left you with egg on your faces and looking rather silly.
you have been going to win every world cup since 66 and it hasnt happened yet. why not try lowering the expectations on these players and they might actually do well in the competition, But winning it i think is a bridge to far for this team.

last night's display by Ecuador is not very good news for England...they beat Costa Rica without conceeding a single goal. 3-0
If they win or draw with Germany, because they have a very good defense.....it will mean that England has to beat Germany to move to the QF.

many people will have critised england for yesterday's performance, but i got nothing but praise. everytime we got the ball, we moved forward which is the only way we going to get chances on goal. admittedly we shoud have done better on some occasions, but no one on the field was perfect and was going to put away every golden oppurtunity. england were under alot of pressure because they were expected to win, but it was never going to be an easy match.

another thing is sven made 2 great subs in the second half, especially lennon because he totally chnaged the game.

all i can say is well played england, but yeh, but can still do better.
