There seem to be many posts on this theme and it seems to depend greatly on which network you're on and how your phone has been set up.
Some settings for most networks can be found by navigating around http://www.mphone.co.uk/ with the O2 specific settings here http://www.mphone.co.uk/mms_wap_settings_o2.html.
Unfortunately, I'm having some trouble getting the settings into my girlfriend's phone and I'm waiting for a response on the thread 'VK530 mms settings if unlocked on o2'.
