Datacable Instructions For Nokia 3510 / 3510i

1. Check the connection pins are straight, springy and of equal length before removing the cable from the sealed packaging. If not, contact us and do not open the packaging.

2. Remove the back cover and the battery from your phone.

3. Remove the foam protection from the connection pins on the bottom of the cable connector.

4. Remove the two pieces of foam protecting the battery holder on top of the cable connector (if present).

5.  Insert the battery on top of the connector and hold the battery and connector together (as pictured opposite).

The two battery holders on the connector will help keep the battery in position.

6. Continue to hold the battery and connector together and then align them with the battery contacts at the top of your phones battery compartment.

7. While resting the battery and connector against the battery contacts, allow the battery and connector to pivot down into the battery compartment of your phone.

8. The connector should now be sitting in the battery compartment but will not have clicked in place.

9. Locate the black plastic clip at the back of the connector near where the cable enters the connector.

10. Push the plastic clip into the connector and then gently push the top of the battery and connector down into position, take care not to use excessive force which may result in damage to the pins at the bottom of the connector.

11. Release the plastic clip to secure the connector in position. The ends of the clip should slide under the metal protection cover at the base of the phone to hold the connector securely in place.

12. Connect the other end of the cable to the 9 pin serial port on your computer.

13. Turn the phone on.

14. Run the required phone software.

15. Check that all the software settings are correct.

Follow instructions 2 to 11 in reverse when removing the cable from your phone.

Updated Software

1. UserPort - Allows service software to run under Windows NT, 2000 and XP - Download Now - (44Kb)

Trouble Shooting

1. Repeat the Data Cable Set-Up instructions, but try turning your phone on after the software is running.

2. Serial port settings must not been in use by another device (eg. internal modem). You can check this through the Device Manager that can be found in Windows Control Panel.

3. There must be no IRQ/DMA conflicts on the serial port. You can check this through the Device Manager that can be found in Windows Control Panel.

4. The correct serial port must be selected in the software. Try different serial ports if you are unsure what serial port to use.

5. The cable must be configured correctly in the software settings. (eg. MBus/FBus)

6. All connections must be secure to get a reliable connection.

7. If software can work on both M and F bus, then cable settings must match software settings. (eg. Logomanager)

8. The software you are using must be compatible with your computers operating system (eg. Windows 98) and the software must support your cable/phone.

9. The software you are using must be installed correctly, and you should always reset your computer after installing new software.

10. When using unlocking software in Windows NT, 2000 or XP then you also need to install UserPort (44Kb).

11. You should only have one program that uses the serial port running at once. Having two or more programs trying to access the serial port at once will cause port conflicts and errors.

12. Check the both the battery and sim card are securely inserted into the phone.

Tips

1. Use Oxygen Phone Manager II to check your connection.

2. Check that you have upgraded to the latest version of the software you are using.

3. The four metal pins on the bottom of the connector should be springy and of equal length. Check that you have not jammed any of the pins by fitting the cable incorrectly. Correct fitting instructions can be found above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  My phone displays the message "Accessory Not Connected" and the software won't connect ?

A.  This usually occurs if you are trying to use the Nokia PC Suite software. This software does not support the 3510 or 3510i or any other 35xx series phones, hence the error message, and will only work with compatible phones. The message will also be displayed when attempting to use any other software that is not compatible with either your phone or your cable.

Q.  I didn't follow the instructions and I jammed one of the connection pins, how can I fix it ?

A.  Use a pair of tweezers to gently pull the pin upwards and back into place so it is the same height as the other pins. If you do not pull gently and upwards then you will risk pulling the pin right out of the socket and rendering your cable unusable.

Q. The phone won't turn on with the cable connected ?

A. There are 3 typical reasons for this occurring:

  1. The battery is not charged. You should charge the battery fully before trying to use the cable.

  2. The battery is not inserted into the connector. You should check the above instructions to see how to fit the battery.

  3. The connector and battery are not inserted into the phone correctly. You should check the connector is plugged into the phone the correct way around, and that it has clicked securely into place. Look at the battery contacts on the phone, the cable connector and the battery, and make sure that the items are plugged in so that all battery contacts match and are correctly aligned.
